A Look Ahead: Luxury Real Estate Trends

Your home is where you build your life. It’s a canvas for your tastes, your interests and your lifestyle. With more than 53 residences located in the world’s most sought-after destinations, Four Seasons Private Residences offers private homes set in iconic cities, secluded beach communities, mountain retreats, modern metropolises and plenty of desirable spots in between. As the demand for branded residences grows, Four Seasons remains at the forefront, with many residential features coinciding with what modern homebuyers are looking for.

So, what are people looking for? In the luxury real estate market, location is still the biggest factor in the decision-making process, but many homebuyers are also looking for distinctive and sustainable architecture, thoughtful interior design, and world-class amenities to create a home that fits their style. According to a report by the Coldwell Banker Global Luxury program, “Amenity-filled, move-in-ready homes and locations that offered their preferred lifestyle [are] now at the top of their list.”

We’re taking a look at some of the biggest trends in the luxury real estate market, as well as a number of impressive residences that go above and beyond to create a remarkable lifestyle for every owner.

Trend: Inspiring architecture that reflects its surroundings

Four Seasons Private Residences are transforming skylines from Kuala Lumpur to Nashville to Boston. Whether it’s at an address next to established global landmarks or in a game-changing new development by a celebrated architect, each Private Residence offers bespoke design elements and innovative features. And since remote work is here to stay, buyers have been paying even more attention to the architecture and layout of a home.

Combining a sustainable design ethos with modern technology, Four Seasons Private Residences Dominican Republic at Tropicalia incorporates pristine natural elements of the Caribbean island country – including wood and stone – into its architecture. The spaces for living, working and playing are thoughtfully designed to complement the landscape and create a profound sense of place, while the buildings themselves blend seamlessly into the landscape.

At Four Seasons Private Residences Las Vegas, all 171 tower residences will feature large outdoor living spaces with amenities such as built-in grills and areas for lounging and dining. With every floorplan, you’ll enjoy unobstructed views from the expansive windows placed throughout the residence. The architecture will offer a sense of the outdoors with features such as natural materials, varying textures and specially selected furnishings. Natural stone and wood set the palette, and touches of brushed metal will add to the sleek, streamlined feel.

Trend: Exclusive and tailored service

One of the major trends in luxury real estate is the idea of a curated lifestyle. Whether it’s booking a table at your favourite restaurant at a moment’s notice or preparing a custom menu as you relax with friends and family, living with Four Seasons means you can rely on a dedicated team to anticipate your every need, building lasting and trusted relationships along the way.

In addition to taking care of all the little things that make a house a home, it’s also about pleasant surprises, or new and unexpected experiences. Maybe it’s on-site sports car test drives, or expert-led scuba-diving at some of the world’s best dive sites. Or it can be something simple, like a private cooking class with a chef to learn how to prepare an authentic salade niçoise for your summer lunches.

At Four Seasons, this level of service isn’t limited to when you’re home. Whenever you find yourself away, you can rest easy knowing that your residence is always in expert hands. When you’re gone, the on-site team manages your property to the highest standards. And when it’s time to come back, you can expect everything to be perfectly ready for you – including your favourite groceries stocked in the kitchen.

To make sure that every detail is expertly accounted for, each residential property is overseen by a Director of Residences who not only leads the dedicated service team but also acts as an advocate for the resident in all aspect of homeownership, from property and asset management to financial matters to facilitating opportunities for extraordinary residential experiences.

Trend: Locations where city living meets the great outdoors

Moving out of larger cities to find more space and access to nature is a trend that was catapulted to prominence by the pandemic. While the desire for larger homes and wide-open spaces is still strong, luxury buyers are narrowing their focus on the best of both worlds: locations with all the amenities of urban life and addresses just outside the city.

At Four Seasons Private Residences Las Vegas, you’ll be able to enjoy panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip and the majestic Red Rock Mountains on a private, 11-acre elevated enclave just 20 minutes outside Las Vegas. Each residence will feature outdoor terraces, private elevator entrances, epicurean kitchens and a sleek modern design inspired by the surrounding desert landscape – the perfect mix of glamour and serenity.

Nestled on the banks of the namesake river, Four Seasons Private Residences Bangkok at Chao Phraya River invites owners to experience the essence of luxury waterfront living in an exclusive residential tower 73 floors above the vibrant streets of Bangkok. As part of Chao Phraya Estate – a mixed-use development sprawling across 14.2 acres of riverside land – residents have access to a private riverside lounge as well as the wellness sanctums and Michelin-starred dining at nearby Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River. And while each residence feels like a waterfront sanctuary, you’re just a short drive away from the Thailand capital’s central business district.

Combining the best of a beach holiday and an urban getaway, Four Seasons Private Residences Bahrain Bay is a cosmopolitan oasis perched on an exclusive island in the heart of Manama. A private bridge provides privileged access to Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, all of its resort-style amenities and a pristine beach.

Over in Istanbul, the soon-to-be-built Four Seasons Private Residences Istanbul will put you in the heart of a thriving, dynamic city with a rich heritage. Situated where the iconic neighbourhoods of Ulus, Etiler and Levent merge, you can easily immerse yourself in the area’s enriching lifestyle and culture. Then retreat to your residence, where the open-concept living spaces are perfect for entertaining or quiet relaxation in equal measure.

Trend: Homes with world-class amenities that enrich your life

More than ever, homebuyers are looking at the amenities that exist beyond their doorsteps – but not too far – as an extension of their lives at home. Luckily for Four Seasons residents, top-tier amenities have always been part of the design.

At Four Seasons Private Residences Twenty Grosvenor Square – one of the most sought-after addresses in London – residents get pampered with access to a heated swimming pool and serene spa, as well as sessions with world-class trainers and wellness experts in the on-site fitness centre. The private cinema, game room and garden library offer even more unique ways to relax.

Planning a dinner party or a special family meal? Residents can take advantage of extensive food and beverage programs, like the one at Four Seasons Private Residences Los Angeles that offers a flexible all-day dining menu. You can also enlist the services of a private chef to come create a feast for you and your guests that’s tailored to your tastes.

Many Four Seasons Private Residences feature expertly designed fitness centres, private movie theatres and private event spaces, all for residents to use as their own.

If you want all the ease and comfort of hotel living but at your own place, look no further than Four Seasons Private Residences at 706 Mission, San Francisco. Gain exclusive access to The Club, an inviting, amenity-rich floor perfect for gathering with friends. A Club attendant can help you organize private parties, wine tastings and community events.

Waitress pouring coffee into a mug at a table set for afternoon tea

And because, for many, health and well-being are front and centre, Four Seasons residents will find plenty of wellness spaces and outdoor areas designed for peace of mind. At the Shakusui-en pond garden at Four Seasons Private Residences Kyoto, seasonal blooms add year-round colour, which incorporates old-world charm with contemporary design and modern conveniences. In Texas, The Orangerie – a lush indoor garden and wellness space at Four Seasons Private Residences Lake Austin – features ample areas for yoga and meditation.

Take a refreshing dip in the indoor swimming pool, watch a film in your own private movie theatre, practise yoga or Pilates during a private session: There’s always something to do at Four Seasons Private Residences Istanbul. The kids’ playroom and young adults’ room will make younger residents feel more than welcome, while the golf simulator suite gives you a chance to get some practice in before you hit the links with your friends.

For golfer’s looking to live the dream of having a world-class course in your backyard, Four Seasons Private Residences Caye Chapel, Belize puts you steps away from the Greg Norman–designed White Shark Golf Course. Located on the first private island in the Americas managed by Four Seasons, this private island resort and residential community offers six miles of pristine coastline and an abundance of exclusive amenities including an organic farm and restaurant, a dedicated adventure centre for kids, a full gym and sports complex, an open-air theatre and access to iconic dive sites such as the Great Blue Hole and the UNESCO World Heritage–designated Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System.

Trend: Residences with harmonious indoor spaces

The shift towards more intentional and sustainable architecture is echoed in interior design trends. Your home’s layout should reflect your lifestyle, and preferably with some reference to the location you’ve chosen. Energy-efficient buildings, sustainable materials and green living are all high on the priority list for homebuyers.

With interior designs as impressive as the skyline views that come with them, Four Seasons Private Residences invite you to live in some of the most beautiful downtown homes and coveted addresses in the world. Cascading staircases, exotic stone finishes, sleek outdoor terraces and custom oversize showers work together to create a soothing sanctuary that’s still connected to the vibrant city below.

On an exclusive island in the heart of Manama, Four Seasons Private Residences Bahrain Bay pays homage to the exquisite craftsmanship that you find in traditional Bahraini architecture. The ceiling, for example, was crafted from fibre plaster using a century-old technique to create intricate details and motifs. Mother-of-pearl, inlaid throughout the design, is a nod to local pearl resources famous across Bahrain, while the desert and milky sky of the region influenced the neutral and warm base palette in the interiors.

Long dining table set on an outdoor patio on the left and a bright and airy living room on the right

The convergence of sustainable design and technology is on full display at Four Seasons Private Residences Lake Austin. All residences feature a floor-through design with deep balconies on either side, a simple and effective way to incorporate natural light and promote cross-ventilation. Energy stewardship is also promoted by high-efficiency indoor air filtering, a campus-wide water filtration system and in-home automation.

What Does It Mean to Live With Four Seasons?

With a 360-degree approach that’s uniquely tailored to each and every resident, life at
Four Seasons Private Residences can often be described with one word: seamless. From the unparalleled service to the expert management to the beautiful homes themselves, Four Seasons has perfected the art of a curated lifestyle. So how do they do it? If you’ve ever wondered what it means to live with Four Seasons, we’re taking a look at what it’s really like through the eyes of both residents and the passionate innovators working behind the scenes.

Service that’s tailored to you

“I can’t begin to explain to you the ease and comfort – it’s all wrapped up in one perfect package,” says Four Seasons homeowner Nazie Eftekhari.

For Eftekhari, one of the biggest draws of this type of homeownership is simple – she doesn’t have to worry about it. “Before I get there, I send down a grocery list. Everything is in the refrigerator, everything I’ve asked for. Perfect, packaged and ready to go. This is a chef’s dream; this is a mother’s dream.”

This level of intuitive service is such an integral part of what Four Seasons is known for, and it’s elevated even further at each Four Seasons Private Residence. Everything from dinner reservations to delivering late-night snacks to planning your child’s birthday party to ensuring your favourite flowers are always on display is handled by a passionate team of experts who know your tastes and preferences – and treat you like family.

“Our residents live at Four Seasons for a reason,” notes Reed Kandalaft, Regional Vice President and General Manager at Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel. “This is not just a typical building where you buy an apartment that you live in and you park your car. We want to know what you like and how you like it so we can go out there and really curate that for you.”

It might be easy to imagine that this kind of dedicated attention is true for owners who live in standalone residences such as Four Seasons Private Residences at 706 Mission, San Francisco. But the same is true at mixed-use properties that are connected to a hotel or resort, which make up the bulk of the Four Seasons residential portfolio.

Owners at mixed-use properties such as Four Seasons Private Residences Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo not only have the attention of an expert residential team, they also enjoy total access to the Resort. “Our [goal is to make] each experience and interaction with every owner personalized to their individual needs,” says General Manager Ian-Robert Ciappara. “Homeowners are part of our community, having full access to all the amenities our Resort guests enjoy. Our amenities and services become an extension of their home and their daily life, to be enjoyed as often as they choose.”

So with the kitchen stocked, house organized, errands taken care of and activities booked, how do residents fill rest of their days? As Eftekhari says: “You get to enjoy your family, you get to enjoy your friends. You get to just enjoy your time. Doesn’t get much better than that.”

Complete peace of mind

Homeownership is a major investment, and protecting that investment is just as important to the on-site residential teams as it is to each owner. Maintaining this high level of trust is especially true with second homes that you may only visit a few times a year. For many homeowners, another benefit of living with Four Seasons is the confidence they have in leaving their home in the team’s care.

“We do not have any worries when we’re away from our home for extended periods of time,” echoes one homeowner at Four Seasons Private Residences Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort. “Everything’s monitored and taken care of in our absence and prepared for us when we’re back.”

But what actually happens at your residence when you’re not there? Property management entails taking charge of all administrative aspects of a residence, including renting the property when desired; maintaining the beauty, security and quality of all infrastructures; and ensuring effective and timely relations with all suppliers of goods and services. “Overall, our focus – and our pride – is to allow our residents, their friends and relatives to enjoy their stay with us without any hassle,” says Alexia Douyon, Director of Residences at Four Seasons Private Residences Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. “No detail is overlooked, and residents can expect tailor-made service and the feeling of [being a part of] a community that truly cares about their well-being.”

As soon as you let the on-site team know you’re coming home, everything is set into motion. Your favourite foods are organized, your home is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for your arrival, and if you’re celebrating a special occasion, the team is excited to make the moment memorable for you. Expect thoughtful surprises like an embroidered robe for a newborn, a room full of balloons to celebrate a milestone or an impromptu birthday parade as genuine gestures of love from your Four Seasons family.

Design that fits your style

Creating a palpable sense of place is another signature element of Four Seasons Private Residences. From iconic skylines in Bangkok and London to tropical locales like Belize and the Dominican Republic, Four Seasons Private Residences are available in some of the world’s most desirable locations, and the residences themselves are designed to capture the essence of each locale.

At Four Seasons Private Residences Las Vegas, drawing from the surrounding desert landscape as well as the glamour of Las Vegas was essential to informing the design. Similarly, the sprawling hills and big, blue Texas sky are beautifully showcased in the private homes and community spaces at Four Seasons Private Residences Lake Austin.

In Los Angeles, the inspiration came from the mid-century architecture and famous Case Study Houses that the city is known for, which meant bringing the outdoors in and the indoors out. “We have all of these amazing terraces, all these wonderful windows that disappear – we’re really capturing that essence,” says Martyn Lawrence Bullard, interior designer of Four Seasons Private Residences Los Angeles.

“The Four Seasons brand is known as a stamp of quality, a seal of perfection,” he continues. “Obviously we wanted [the residences] to have a wonderful luxe feel, but it had to blend with the California experience.”

Owners can also expect the highest quality materials and finishes in every private residence, often using materials that are native to the area or design motifs that nod to local culture. At Four Seasons Private Residences Bahrain Bay, designer Nicolas Roux created a design that pays homage to the exquisite craftsmanship you find in traditional Bahraini architecture. “We brought a focus to the amazing local pearl resources famed across Bahrain by using mother-of-pearl inlay throughout the design in a variety of ways,” says Roux. “We also used a lot of beautiful marble across the floors, walls and architraves, and a Guatemala green verde stone to reference the deeper colours from the spice markets.”

While the designers have put incredible thought into the creation of each residence, there’s still plenty of room to make it your own. “[We’ve created] these beautiful backgrounds, but within those finishes, there’s ways for all the people who buy these apartments to change it up a little, to add their flavour,” says Bullard of the Los Angeles residences.

Ultimately, notes Roux, it’s important that owners feel relaxed, that this is a space where they can feel at home.

At Four Seasons, home is that feeling of belonging and the complete confidence that you’re being taken care of. As homeowner Eftekhari said, it doesn’t get much better than that.

Tailor-Made Summer Getaways

The arrival of summer always brings a feeling of excitement and possibility. What will you do? Where will you go? What kind of stories will you get to tell when you return home? If you’re currently daydreaming about your next summer getaway, we’re right there with you.

This summer, we’re putting our focus firmly on joy – something the dedicated concierge teams at Four Seasons specialize in. They’re passionate about creating memories that will last a lifetime and making sure your dream getaway becomes a reality. Armed with expert knowledge, these talented Concierges are well-versed in creating custom itineraries, often with thoughtful surprises along the way. Whether it’s a family vacation in Orlando or a milestone celebration in Hualalai, Four Seasons knows how to make each and every stay unique and memorable.

We talked to Concierges at five different resorts about what tailor-made itineraries could look like at their destinations, along with their recommendations for the perfect summer stays.

Gear up for adventure in Maui

Home to an alluring mix of natural beauty and outdoor fun, Maui – Hawaii’s second-largest island – is a haven for adventure seekers who appreciate a laid-back lifestyle. From exploring waterfalls and hiking to the summit of Haleakalā to kayaking alongside a pod of dolphins, it’s easy to fill your days with wonder here. “There’s a reason the saying is ‘Maui nō ka ʻoi’ (Maui is the best), and we encourage everyone to get out and discover this very special destination,” says Margaux Pfeiffer, Director of Concierge and Guest Experience at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea.

From the moment you arrive, you can expect to feel a genuine sense of welcome and the connective spirit of aloha. Pfeiffer recommends stopping by for cocktails and pupu in the Lobby Lounge during the sunset ceremony – which includes hula and live Hawaiian music – before heading to dinner at DUO Steak and Seafood on your first night. “It’s the perfect way to set the mood for your tropical escape,” she says.

Mau 2332 970x540

Depending on your preferences, the Concierge can arrange for a day of adventure or create a custom itinerary for your entire stay. “Maui is a spectacular destination for summer travel,” says Pfeiffer, “and due to the Resort’s prime location just above Wailea Beach, guests have easy access to a wide range of ocean activities, shopping, golf and restaurants.” Favourites include helicopter tours, hiking trips, snorkelling excursions and surfing lessons.

Rise early and enjoy one of the Resort’s many complimentary cultural offerings, such as the outrigger canoe experience. Then spend the day lounging on the golden sands of Wailea Beach or poolside. Reserve a Luxury Cabana at the adults-only infinity-edge Serenity Pool while the children attend Kids For All Seasons, or choose an Ocean-View Luxury Cabana for a family-friendly option. Enjoy a treatment at the Spa and Wellness Center or visit the Next|Health IV lounge for a vitamin therapy IV drip to ensure you are feeling your best for your vacation. As the day draws to an end, Pfeiffer suggests enjoying a sunset dinner at Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante, where you’ll find house-made pastas and a menu filled with the island’s freshest ingredients.

CAN’T-MISS ACTIVITY

Be sure to sign up for the Resort’s newest unforgettable experience, A Wayfinder’s Journey. This private and customizable three-hour catamaran experience celebrates the history of Hawaii’s wayfinding ancestors. First, you’ll enjoy a multi-course meal inspired by canoe plants (the 24 original plants brought to Hawaii by Polynesian voyagers) plus wine pairings, all prepared on board by a Four Seasons chef. Afterwards, you’ll be immersed in a Hawaii stargazing experience that is part storytelling and part astronomy. Your host for the evening is the distinguished navigator Kala Baybayan Tanaka, who uses the stars, swells and other natural elements to guide her, just like her ancestors centuries ago.

TRUE STAY STORY

An avid canoe paddler staying at the Resort had mentioned to the Guest Experience Manager that he would love to paddle with a Hawaiian team. When word got to Tyson, a Banquet Attendant, he offered to take the guest out for a paddle with his own canoe team to share his skill and knowledge.

Make family memories in Orlando

Families travel to Orlando for a magical experience, and the team at
Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort is always on the lookout for opportunities to bring a little extra joy to every stay, whether it’s with a custom-decorated cabana for a recent college graduate or arranging a private meet and greet with a Disney princess.

The thing on everyone’s mind here is, of course, the theme parks, and John Dechmerowski, Concierge Assistant Manager at the Resort, strongly suggests booking a guided Disney VIP Tour through the Disney Planning Center. “We recommend that all our guests use these tours,” he says. “It’s so much easier to navigate through the parks.” VIP Tours need to be booked 60 days in advance, and the on-site team can make all the arrangements for you. Once they know your preferences – like which character your kids are dying to meet or what show you’d like front-row tickets to – they’ll call on your behalf to book experiences as soon as they’re available, leaving one more thing off your travel to-do list. Summertime is actually a great time to visit, notes Dechmerowski, since the crowds are calmer than they are during holiday peak season.

Want to retreat to some Four Seasons–style family fun? The Resort itself is a sprawling 26-acre oasis filled with a variety of amenities and on-site experiences guaranteed to keep guests of all ages smiling. Spend at least a day splashing around the Resort’s 5-acre waterpark – Explorer Island – complete with pools, a lazy river, water slides, splash zone, and a multitude of games and places to hang out together or with new friends.

Explorer Island is also home base for the award-winning Kids For All Seasons program, where kids ages 4–12 can take part in engaging activities, both indoors and out, such as superhero training, crafting, beach games and swimming. Drop them off in the morning and enjoy some quality time together at the adults-only pool, relax at the Spa with a personalized treatment, improve your tennis game with a private lesson, or play a round on the Tom Fazio–designed, 18-hole Tranquilo Golf Course.

For an adults-only evening, you can have the Concierge arrange for a babysitter while you stop by The Lobby Bar for happy hour before heading to dinner at Capa, the Michelin-starred steakhouse perched on the Resort’s 17th floor.

CAN’T-MISS ACTIVITY

Try the private pizza-making class at Ravello. “These are really a big hit with families,” says Dechmerowski. For larger groups, the team can even arrange for a class in the demo kitchen. The chef will come in and guide you through making your own pizza from scratch, including how to roll the dough, add the toppings and cook it to perfection.

TRUE STAY STORY

A young guest was particularly fond of one gelato flavour at Lickety Split. She had it so often that the team renamed the flavour after her for the duration of her stay, written on the chalkboard for all to see. Her face lit up each time she walked into the café.

Celebrate together in Hualalai

Surrounded by the white-sand beaches and the black lava landscape of the Kona-Kohala coast, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai offers a unique perspective on what the Big Island has to offer. “Everyone has their own story,” says Chef Concierge Manon Neller, “and our role as Concierges is to provide each guest with a customized itinerary curated specifically for them.” The ties to tradition, nature and island culture are felt everywhere at the Resort – from the daily programming at the Ka‘upulehu Cultural Center to the on-site swimmable aquarium known as King’s Pond – and Neller and his team are well versed in helping you create your own stories, traditions and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

“Whether it is a first-time guest celebrating a one-year anniversary or a return guest celebrating a 50th anniversary, our aim is to exude love and aloha,” says Neller. In fact, the Resort is known as a favourite Hawaiian destination, one that people flock to time and again. Spend your days filled with a variety of experiences such as playing a round of golf at the Jack Nicklaus signature Hualalai Golf Course, enjoying traditional Hawaiian treatments at the Spa, dining at one of the Resort’s seven restaurants or embarking on a custom ocean adventure.

If you’re in Hawaii to celebrate a milestone, you’re in luck. “We’ll help you celebrate a monumental occasion with an over-the-top experience on or off the Resort,” says Neller. “A helicopter ride to see the most active volcano in the world, a picnic under a waterfall, a romantic dinner under the stars prepared by one of our Resort chefs – nothing’s off the table.” Travelling with a group? The Resort’s villas and specialty suites offer added space and privacy, a dedicated Concierge, and custom inclusions that will tailor your stay even further.

Neller also recommends taking advantage of the Only at Hualalai experiences available exclusively at Four Seasons. These unique curated experiences are offered in partnership with local craftspeople and experts. Meet champion free-diver, spear-fisher and conservationist Kimi Werner for a thrilling free-diving experience; work with third-generation Hawaii Island blacksmith Neil Kamimura to forge your own knife; or join caretaker Justin Lee for a tour of Háloa Áina’s native Hawaiian ‘Iliahi forest on the slopes of Mauna Loa.

Soak in the sights, sounds and flavours of the Seychelles

When describing Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, Director of Guest Relations James Edwards has two words: true paradise. “You are always reminded of the beauty of the little cove we’re nestled in when you look out onto the horizon and see the sprawling sea,” he says. “Surrounded by mango, takamaka and kannel trees, the raw nature of the Seychelles is felt everywhere you go.”

Located just north of Madagascar, Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands comprising white-sand beaches, lush green mountains, coral reefs and granite outcroppings, all largely untouched by humans. Four Seasons has two resorts here, one on Seychelles’ largest island, Mahé, and another on its very own private island, Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island. One amazing way to explore the mountainous forests of Mahé, suggests Edwards, is on foot. Embark with a guide on a journey through the forest, learning more about the abundant variety of locally growing fruits, and stumbling across some incredible views of the island. “Whether you are keen to test your limits with a strenuous trek or simply want a stroll to learn more about the local flora, there is definitely a hike for you,” says Edwards.

Seychelles also offers plenty of ocean adventures. Point your kayak towards the horizon at the best time to view the sun as it sets on Petit Anse Bay. “It’s an absolute must,” Edwards says. Or have the Concierge arrange for a cruise to some of the local islands in the archipelago. With so many islands and experiences to choose from, you can easily make this trip your own. “For those wanting to stay active, there are snorkelling, fishing and stopping off for a bicycle ride on the beautiful island of La Digue,” says Edwards. “Otherwise, you can visit Praslin Island and the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve – home of the indigenous Coco de Mer – relax on a beautiful beach or take in the sunshine from the cruise itself.”

Back at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, reconnect with your mind, body and spirit at Le Syel Spa’s Konekte Shack. Here, the expert team can help you deepen your meditation practice, rebalance your energy and even create your own body scrub with natural ingredients such as cinnamon (known here as kannel) that’s harvested and dried on-site. “The team will help you make the perfect scrub for you, using butter, oils or soaps,” Edwards says.

A guest visiting for her birthday was eager to taste local exotic fruits. The team organized a surprise tour around the Resort grounds so she could select the fruit she’d like to try. When she returned to her villa, a basket of her selections was waiting for her, followed by a custom fruit-themed birthday cake.

Follow nature’s pace in Langkawi

“When it comes to nature, you are really investing in the future,” says Aidi Abdullah, Senior Naturalist at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. Located within the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, the beachfront Resort is a gateway to the natural wonders of Southeast Asia. Here, you’ll have the chance to connect with the on-site team of experts who are passionate about the environment. They’ll show off the region’s unique flora and fauna as well as the diverse habitats ranging from rainforest and mangroves to ancient salt-water lakes and towering sea stacks.

The Resort’s Geopark Discovery Centre is an excellent place to start. Stop by for one of the regularly scheduled nature talks or peruse the interactive exhibits at your own pace to get a sense of the local ecosystem. When you’re ready to experience it all first hand, Abdullah recommends taking in Langkawi’s inland beauty on a guided bicycle tour. Ride past traditional villages with stilted wooden houses and keep an eye out for water buffalo lounging in the mud. Tours can be fully customized to your preferences and activity level. Plan a stop at a nearby waterfall for a picnic lunch or opt for a ride through lush paddy fields with the mountains as your backdrop – whatever route you choose, the scenery is guaranteed to inspire.

Once you’ve explored the land, it’s time to set off on a seafaring adventure. Tour the three islands located in the Resort’s bay on a private Bay Cruise, or head to Pulau Payar Marine Park for a snorkelling excursion in the park’s crystal-clear waters. For a truly unforgettable evening, the Resort can arrange for an intimate sunset charter around the southern archipelago, complete with champagne and light bites. Fishing is also a huge part of the local culture in Langkawai, and the Resort offers a variety of ways to take part. Catch sea bass, grouper and trevally from your perch on one of the sheltered islands in the southern part of the archipelago, or try your line on the northern side at the tip of the Resort’s beach. At the end of the day, return to your villa and enjoy a barbecue feast with your very own catch on the menu.

In Langkawi, the deep connection with the surrounding world also inspires the urge to look inward. Head to the Geo Spa for their Elemental Balance ritual, a custom three-part program that’s designed to bring your mind, body and spirit into a state of harmony. You can also take your pick from the variety of signature treatments inspired by 5,000 years of Ayurvedic knowledge.

A Day in the Life: Living in Costa Rica with Four Seasons

What makes a place feel like home? For many, it’s a sense of ease, comfort and joy. At Four Seasons Private Residences Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, it’s David Mendez’s job to make sure every resident feels that from the moment they arrive. We asked Mendez to give us a glimpse into this unique homeownership experience from his insider’s point of view.

As the Director of Residences, what is a typical day like for you?

It’s all about connection. My day starts by connecting with the team to talk about who is arriving that day, reviewing the itineraries of the residents who are already on property to see what they might need and, of course, making sure that every home is kept in tip-top shape. And then the most important part is connecting with our residents. Whether it’s arranging the room towels in a fun shape for families arriving with kids or preparing a cake, flowers and balloons for someone who is here celebrating a birthday, we want every single resident to feel love and recognition as soon as they arrive.

Tell us about the relationship you and your team have with your residents.

Most of our owners come to the property in vacation mode, so we really begin cultivating each relationship during the pre-arrival process, where we talk about everything about their upcoming stay and how we can make it special for them. We always remember any preference or detail they’ve shared during previous visits so we can make sure they feel at home. It’s truly a joy to have them back, and we want them to know and feel that.

Our owners do like to be seen and recognized in public areas, so we never miss the chance to say hello. Some of our owners have been around long enough to see our team members grow within the organization and, in turn, some team members have watched our owners’ children grow up, so there are often close, long-lasting relationships that are built over the years. There’s a strong sense of community here on Peninsula Papagayo that can be felt everywhere.

Four Seasons is known for its exceptional and intuitive service. What does that look and feel like for homeowners, and how does it differ from your typical luxury real estate experience?

At Four Seasons, it feels like family. Like the comfort and trust of returning to a place that knows who you are, knows your family members and knows your preferences. It’s being greeted by a familiar face, with the feeling that you are living in a community that genuinely wants you to have a great time. We always aim to go above and beyond.

For example, we had one owner who was very excited about his grandson’s first visit. Before he arrived, we had a child’s bathrobe embroidered with the baby’s name on it. We also included a welcome amenity with a note saying ‘Welcome to the world, and your new house.’ Sometimes it’s more intimate gestures like this, but other times, we like to go big. My team is often seen driving down the street with colourful balloons flying from the golf cart to lead a special birthday parade.

What makes this Costa Rica property so unique?

For starters, our location in Prieta Bay on Peninsula Papagayo is simply mesmerizing, with expansive views of the Pacific Ocean, magical sunsets and an unparalleled closeness to nature. But beyond the beautiful landscape, it’s the community of people that really make this place unique. Costa Rica was recognized a few years ago as the happiest country in the world – this ties back to a phrase we have here: pura vida [the happy life]. My team and I are proud ambassadors of the pura vida lifestyle, which for us, means we genuinely care about the well-being of our residents and do everything we can to make sure they feel that.

Given the location on Costa Rica’s idyllic Peninsula Papagayo, how does Four Seasons incorporate sustainability into both the residences themselves and the lifestyle that owners are buying into?

We also give residents the ability to join activities that support social responsibility, like supporting local schools and adopting families through the Creciendo Juntos outreach program, or other initiatives where our residents can help with coral gardening. Overall, our residents love the proximity to nature and wildlife. Some of the owners have really invested their time learning about the local wildlife and get really excited about it!

What do you think is the biggest draw for residents, and what do they find most valuable about living here?

Our homeowners love the proximity to nature, but what they truly value most is the carefree ownership, the overall access to services from the Resort, the feeling of not having to worry about the day-to-day details of your home and the certainty that there is a team of professionals tending your needs while you’re here. They also value being part of an exclusive community that is supporting and taking care of all aspects of their home, allowing them to fully embody the pura vida lifestyle.
