Rhythm in Madrid

The strumming of a guitar, the rapid-fire percussion of castanets, the quick tap of a dancer’s toes: In Madrid, flamenco strikes all the right notes. Inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage for Humanity, the distinctive dance originated in the southernmost Spanish province of Andalusia, but you can easily enjoy it during your staycation at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid. Head to one of the nearby flamenco bars or tablaos to watch as skilled dancers stamp their feet and swirl their skirts alongside locals, then find your own rhythm during a private lesson with a professional dancer, arranged by the Hotel. As you learn the basic steps and fluid gestures associated with the dance, you’ll no doubt feel the pasiòn rising, just like a proud Madrileño.

New Flavours in Buenos Aires

If you consider Paris and Milan to be the pre-eminent bastions of café society, add another. Buenos Aires elevates coffee culture to an art form, demonstrated in its abundance of cafés, where you can order a café (espresso), cortado (espresso cut with cream) or cafeen jarrito (double espresso). Coffee aficionados will enjoy a lesson from a barista at Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires: Using the Hotel’s exclusive blend of beans, learn the importance of coarse or fine grinds, water temperature, filtering and timing as you brew the perfect cup – and then create your own work of art in the crema atop your drink.

River views in Tokyo

Yakatabune – Japanese pleasure boats – are a familiar sight on Tokyo’s Sumida River. Popular among wealthy merchants, feudal lords and samurai warriors during the Heian era, today the small wooden ships can be identified by their red lanterns as they cruise past the city’s skyscrapers and temples. For a different perspective on the city’s skyline, set sail from Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi on a private yakatabune. Join friends and family at a traditional low-slung table for a kaiseki (multi-course) dinner and inventive cocktails as city lights twinkle on the shore. In spring, you’ll also have an unobstructed view of the sea of pink cherry blossoms lining the riverbanks.

Artful scenery in Florence

In 1367, Italian architects Neri di Fioravante and Filippo Brunelleschi helped usher in the Italian Renaissance with their designs for the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore – now better known as Il Duomo – envisioning a large masonry dome atop without traditional Gothic buttresses. Today, this iconic landmark dominates the Florentine skyline, rising over the city. You’ll be perfectly positioned to reflect on its magnificence during dinner in a private 15th-century palazzo just a few blocks away, arranged by the Concierge at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze. You’ll get exclusive access to the historic residence, which was designed by sculptor and architect Giuliano da Sangallo and was once the home of Leonardo da Vinci – it’s rumoured that the palazzo is where he painted the Mona Lisa. Sip cocktails while watching the sun set from the palazzo’s fourth floor, and take in panoramic views from the penthouse terrace – including an up-close look at the Duomo’s architectural details, plus glimpses of the Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Repubblica – before sitting down to a customized four-course meal prepared and served by your dedicated Hotel chef and personal butler.

An Intimate ‘I Do’

When it comes to the perfect wedding, many brides are discovering that less is more. Whether you’re planning to elope or want to limit the guest list to your most cherished family and friends, a microwedding is an increasingly popular option.

A micro-celebration can maintain your favourite, time-honoured traditions on a smaller scale, while the limited guest list leaves you free to focus on what matters most: your love for each other. As for those near and far, livestreaming options ensure that loved ones at home can still be part of your special day. Say your vows overlooking iconic Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles with 10 friends, or pop a bottle of bubbly on the beach with 40 guests: With Four Seasons wedding experts on hand to manage all the details, every moment will be just as you’ve always imagined.

Your wedding at Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel is just as stylish. “When you’re thinking about the biggest day of your love story, no matter the size of your party, your wedding venue should be just as legendary,” says Four Seasons wedding specialist Mark Anderson. “Our Rodeo Terrace offers exclusive views of Rodeo Drive, and this venue is simply magical – toast your love with the sparkling lights of the city twinkling in the distance.”

The Hotel’s Love Story wedding package is perfect for a party of 10 – including the bride and groom – and includes an intimate ceremony followed by a reception with a three- or four-course dinner with wine pairings and cocktails, a Champagne toast and a custom mini wedding cake. The Hotel can also arrange to livestream your ceremony, so your virtual guest list is limitless.

Beach Magic in Langkawi

As you plan your special day, it’s important to remember that small doesn’t have to mean simple. “Intimate ceremonies can be as lavish or as laid-back as you like,” says Ellie Low, wedding specialist at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. The island hideaway’s Perfect Paradise and Royal Seclusion wedding packages can accommodate as few as 10 guests and as many as 80, and both packages are completely customizable, whether you want to dance down a sandy “aisle” barefoot to tropical tunes or say “I do” in a more traditional, formal ceremony.

Low and her team coordinate every aspect of the day – flower arrangements, hair and makeup for the bride, the cake, and photography. Dreamy backdrops include the Moroccan-inspired Rhu Bar and the lotus blossom–shaded Teratai Pavilion – select your own private oasis and let the party begin. The celebration continues for you and your love the next day as you enjoy a romantic Champagne breakfast for two and a couple’s massage.

Creative touches in Austin

Big galas can be beautiful, but they can also be overwhelming, according to the wedding experts at Four Seasons Hotel Austin. At celebrations with long guest lists, brides may find themselves too busy making the rounds to really enjoy the day. A smaller ceremony and reception facilitate a more relaxing and meaningful reception, carefully tailored to the couple. “No matter the size of a wedding, we take great pride in making it feel intimate and personalized to the couple and their guests,” says Director of Catering Kelly Smutny. “Our beautiful setting overlooking Lady Bird Lake, combined with the warm, gracious service of our staff, ensure every wedding is memorable in its own way.”

The Hotel’s Micro-Wedding package includes everything you need for a small, private ceremony and reception for you and a handful of your closest friends and family, while the Elite Elopement package whittles the gathering size down to two: you and your spouse-to-be. And while these celebrations might be small, they’re big on personal touches tailored to you and your guests. At one recent micro-wedding, Smutny says, the bride and groom ordered each guest’s favourite dessert and had it served to them with the wedding cake. At another, the smaller guest size made it possible for the Four Seasons team to craft a complex, Instagram-worthy signature cocktail – producing special moments that can be hard to pull off with larger crowds.

You’ll want to pair the perfect wedding with the perfect proposal – and the Hotel can help with that too. As part of the Perfect Proposal package, your dedicated proposal specialist will help create a magical evening for you and your beloved. The Art of Heli-Hopping

Some adventures can only be reached from the sky: Soar over the Andes mountains to discover remote historical sites, catch world-class waves off the coast of Bali, hop over snow-covered peaks in the Alps. The best way to reach new heights? A private helicopter.

Increasingly popular and prized for their privacy and the ease they offer, helicopters offer a convenient way to do more in less time, plus easy access to hard-to-reach destinations. We’ve rounded up some of the once-in-a-lifetime experiences that can only be enjoyed by helicopter. From Bogotá to Bali, follow our guide to take flight.

Get A Bird’s-Eye View of Colombian Culture

According to legend, a mythical Muisca king covered himself with gold dust and plunged from a raft into the emerald waters of Lake Guatavita as a tribute to the gods. He was rewarded with an empire of gold, and the story grew into the myth of El Dorado. The lake – tucked away in the Andes mountains – is a long way from Colombia’s capital by car, but easily accessible by air. On an excursion offered exclusively to guests of Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá, set out to discover the ancient site. Your private Bell 206 L3 helicopter will soar over the lake and then land at the Zipaquira Salt Cathedral. Built in the tunnels of an old salt mine, the church was recently declared “the First Wonder of Colombia.”

A helicopter ride also serves as your introduction to the Kogi community, hidden high in the forests of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains. Depart from Four Seasons Hotel Bogotá and head deep into the mountains, where you’ll catch a glimpse of the imposing platforms and circular terraces of Ciudad Perdida – the Lost City – built by the Tayrona people around AD 800. When you arrive in Mulkuakungui Village, you’ll meet the Kogi, an indigenous community whose rich culture and traditions have remained unchanged for centuries. After a morning spent learning about their customs, rituals and lifestyle, board the helicopter for your return to the Hotel. Along the way, detour to Mirador de la Reserva Natural for a guided tour of the reserve’s dramatic landscape. It’s a journey you’ll never forget. “Being a part of these cultural immersion experiences allows guests to really take in what Colombia has to offer in a short amount of time, maximizing truly local experiences and unparalleled views, both bundled in Colombian hospitality and Four Seasons luxury,” says General Manager Mark Bingle.

Propel Yourself to the Best Waves

Bali is a surfing magnet – some of the best waves in the world can be found off its shores. Skip the most crowded surf spots with a day trip to Grajagan Bay for the place known to surfers worldwide as G-Land. A helicopter gets you there in a fraction of the time it would take by boat, so you can catch more waves. A bonus: You’ll enjoy unforgettable aerial views of Bali, Java and East Java National Park.

From Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, join a Tropicsurf guide aboard a private chopper and head out to G-Land’s left-hand break, a bucket-list surf spot thanks to its ultra-fast, heart-thumping tubes. The remote location means the water is uncrowded and your wave count high, so experienced surfers can catch wave after wave with virtually no competition. Not a pro? Tropicsurf can help beginners dive into more mellow, playful waves and offer coaching to help them reach the next level. “Whether you’re a surfer or spectator, G-Land is a magical place for a day trip,” says General Manager Uday Rao. “While the surfers make the most of their time in the water, non-surfers can watch the action from the pristine beaches and explore the coastline and wildlife of the national park.”

Take Your Game to New Heights in the Alps

Hop on a helicopter for an all-access pass to some of the best ski slopes. After trying the best runs near Four Seasons Hotel Megève, take a short flight to nearby resorts like Chamonix, Courchevel and Val d’Isère to experience a variety of ski terrains – plus breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding mountains, a treat for both skiers and photographers.

As part of the Hotel’s Ski Safari package, the Ski Concierge will tailor your itinerary according to the weather and snow conditions, and can also arrange dogsled rides, snowmobile rides or snowshoeing walks. “Our heli-safaris offer a very unique way to discover the Mont Blanc area,” says General Manager Stephane Gras. “Based on the success of the ski version in winter, we have also developed a golf version for summertime, when we take our guests to the most famous courses in the region.”

Heli-golf excursions provide easy access to the greens at Mont d’Arbois Golf Course in Megève as well as Alpine courses in Evian or Esery. With expert coaching from the Hotel’s in-house Golf Valet or a pro from the Golf Academy, your trip will hit a hole in one.

Elevate Your Golf Game on Maui

All good golfers know it’s important to get the lie of the land before taking your putt. The best way to get a look at the course? By helicopter. Join a pro for an aerial tour of Wailea Golf Course, set on the foothills of the dormant Mount Haleakala, with wide fairways and strategically placed bunkers – plus stunning ocean views and natural features like lush Hawaiian landscaping and lava rocks – before teeing off.

At Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, your day begins with breakfast and a drink from the Bloody Mary bar. After your private helicopter ride over the course, a local pro will fit you with a putter and join you on the greens. You’ll enjoy private tee times and a golf intermezzo after the ninth hole. Afterwards, return to the Resort and head immediately to the Spa for a massage designed to ease the muscles you’ve been using.
